 Profile

The allrounder David Bandy continued to be a bit-part contributor for Western Australia in 2007-08, when an abdominal strain and strong competition for places kept him to two Pura Cup games and six Twenty20 matches. The previous summer he was used more often and had one outstanding day. Bandy outshone his quicker team-mates by taking 7 for 44 with his medium-pace offerings in overcast conditions at Brisbane, setting up an innings victory for the Warriors. Prior to that effort, his best was three wickets in a first-class innings. In 2006-07, Bandy's six Pura Cup games brought 249 runs at 27.66 and 12 victims at 22.33, and he was also useful in three limited-overs and four Twenty20 appearances. However, regular action was hard to come by the following season in a squad that also featured similar allrounders Shawn Gillies, Sean Ervine and Darren Wates.

Bandy took his time reaching Western Australia's first team and made his debut aged 27 in 2005-06. He immediately made considerable progress, playing seven Pura Cup matches and four ING Cup games. The retirement of Kade Harvey opened a limited-overs space and he picked up a half-century and two wickets, but more impressive gains came in the first-class competition. His most important contribution arrived with 88 against South Australia as the Warriors fought for a draw and he finished the summer with 337 runs at 28.08, while he also posted 64 against the touring South Africans. Bandy was productive with the ball, capturing 12 victims at 31.58. Justin Langer has been his biggest influence, scoring 1000 runs in a grade summer was his career highlight and he would be a fireman if he wasn't setting cricket fields alight with his flexible skills.
