Pakistan captain confident of being cleared Hair in 'big trouble' - Inzamam August 30, 2006
Inzamam-ul-Haq, the Pakistan captain, has claimed that Australian umpire Darrell Hair was in "big trouble" for his role in the forfeited Oval Test as well as subsequent events. "Darrell is in big trouble, I don't know why he is doing these things," Inzamam told Sky Sports referring to the match and the controversial emails that followed it. Inzamam said Pakistan were ready to resume play after a delay and added that they were even prepared to continue the game on the fifth day. "I was quite happy to play the game after half an hour - and then the next day - because we had launched our protest," he said. "I don't know why he [Hair] was not interested in playing." Inzamam was also confident he would be cleared of the charges against him - of ball tampering and bringing the game into disrepute - when the hearing comes up in the end of September. "I'm sure 100% because I have done nothing," Inzamam said. "That is why I am doing these things, because I know we are not guilty and that is why we take this stance." He also confirmed that the team was still struggling to put the incident behind them. "The team has still not forgotten the incidents in the Oval Test," he wrote in his column in the Daily Jang. "And the players have been under severe mental stress for the last one week. The fact is the pressure is there because our team has still not been cleared of ball-tampering charges. But the management has told the players to try to win the one-day series." The Pakistan Cricket Board has written to the International Cricket Council demanding an inquiry into Hair's conduct in the Test and asked that it be held before Inzamam's disciplinary hearing. © Cricinfo
