 Profile

A left-arm quick bowler and capable lower-order batsman, David Mills started and finished his career at Nottinghamshire but enjoyed the bulk of his time with Leicestershire between 1990 and 1999. After two seasons at Trent Bridge he switched to Grace Road, taking 5 for 47 on his debut, and in 1991 he bagged 63 wickets, following with 74 in 1992 which earned him an England A call-up, although an Achilles injury restricted his chances and ruled him out of most of 1993. In 1994 he bounced back with 74 wickets and started showing signs of his batting ability. That winter he played for Tasmania, but the Achilles trouble returned and limited him to eight first-team outings in 1995. In 1996 he took 73 wickets and scored 424 runs, including his maiden hundred, as Leicestershire won the Championship, and he was again a regular when the regained the title in 1998, although by then he was less penetrative. Never more than an irregular member of the one-day side, he did appear on the losing side in the 1992 NatWest Trophy final. After a benefit in 1999 he returned to Nottinghamshire for a final summer. He turned to umpiring and was on the ECB's reserve list from 2007.
