Player profile

Full name Andrew Leipus
Born January 9, 1970, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia
Current age 38 years 197 days

 Profile

Appointed by the BCCI as the Indian team physiotherapist in October 1999, Andrew Leipus is a native of Adelaide, Australia. He is a qualified sports scientist and a physiotherapist (University of South Australia). He spent a good seven years in the university learning the finer aspects of his trade. Leipus was a freewheeling spirit in the Indian camp attending to the players' injury and physical condition. The Indian team benefited tremendously under Leipus took over and the general level of fitness of the Indian team improved by leaps and bounds.

Leipus believes that though fitness is important, it is skills that matter most in the game of cricket. Leipus too is a natural athlete, who comes from a Tennis background with a strong passion for Australian Rules Football. He has been through the agony of being injured and was forced to switch over to triathlon because of a knee injury. He loves the water sports, surfing being his favourite. Leipus spent almost two years in South Africa, before he joined the Indian team. He worked with the likes of Daryll Cullinan and Andrew Hall at the Centre of Sports Medicine, Roesbank, Johannesburg.

In 2004 he was offered a three-year extension to his contract but turned it down as he wanted to spend more time with his family, and to improve his professional qualifications by studying.
