Kyle Mills, the New Zealand bowler, has been called up to replace Shane Bond who was yesterday ruled out of the South Africa series.

Bond left the field on the third day after bowling four overs at the start of the day and was thoroughly missed by his team as Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla shared a 330-run partnership that all but took the game out of New Zealand's reach.

Bond was not the only casualty for the tourists: Jacob Oram, who dismissed Kallis for New Zealand's only bowling success of the day, limped off with a hamstring strain half-way through an over and Michael Papps stayed off the field for the entire day with a gastric illness.

Mills was part of the original New Zealand squad but withdrew due to a calf strain, an injury he has now recovered from. The second Test at Centurion begins on Friday.
