ECB advertises for selection posts

David Graveney, the England chairman of selectors, will have to apply to keep his job after the ECB advertised for a new full-time national selector and two part-time positions. This is the latest part of the ECB's response to the Schofield Review following last winter's Ashes series and the World Cup.

The main selector will travel with the team home and abroad as well as being responsible for central contracts and all national squads from Under-19 level upwards. The closing date for applications is December 18 and interviews are due to start from January 7.

Graveney has held the head role for 10 years and currently has Geoff Miller as his No. 2. Hugh Morris, the new managing director of England cricket, is leading the recruitment process and said Graveney understands the position.

"The chairman of England selectors is a part-time role, we are moving to a full-time role, there will be official duties overseas which weren't part of the brief before and David is up to speed with that, understands it and clearly is welcome to throw his hat in the ring for the role," said Morris. "We want to have the best possible people working in the selection process."

The new selection panel won't be in place until the start of the next English season in April 2008 so the squad for the New Zealand tour next February and March will be selected under the current system.
