HKU vs LCC, 13th September 2008
Match Report HKU vs LCC, 13th September 2008

For our first game of the season, we went down to HKU on a stinking hot day at Sandy Bay. Losing the toss, we were asked to take the field.

Jami (9-1-32-2) and Pricey (5-0-23-1) both bowled very well with limited runs coming from the first spells. An early runout by Becks, Jami drew a rash shot to have them two down with a catch from Becks at mid-orf. Then Monty took a good catch low down to have them 3 fa not much at all. Toby was first change, and settled in to a good rhythm after a losener. Unlucky not to pick-up wickets. Becks bowled a few overs and took Bruce (39) with a stretching catch from Gaffa at midwicket. Kev Mac (2-0-24-0) was bowling a too juicy length both spells. Wrong time to bowl, sorry mate. Gaffa put it on a pretty good length and took the key wicket of Sabine (34) from a short one, caught by the Singaporean Seifman at mid-wicket. Jonno (5.3-1-13-3) was also the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets and hardly anything short. One bowled, one caught (Jami) and an lbw/caught behind to finish it with Tahir (24). Monty (3-0-12-1) was spot on taking the wicket of Hafeez (24). Becks and Jami came back on but Phil and co were playing like English batsmen waiting for a draw.

In the end we were a bit slow bowling our overs. Took the last wicket just after our time had expired. But, we did did bowl them out for 186.

Jami (44) and Lethal (14) opened the innings. They put on a good solid 40 before Lethal was out. Jami batted really well to top score for the day and see off Bruce and Hafeez. Toby (19) almost got going but picked out Bruce on the boundary. Brad was a unlucky to be caught flicking one off his hip (2). Our import Jonno (0) was only in for a short time after all the talk. Becks (28) got onto a few at the end trying to push the run-rate. Monty (15) hung around for a while. Gaffa (3) had a few swings and misses. Kev (7) was up against it. Johnny (0*), having strained his quad, hobbled up and down for a few until Pricey (2) was out. All out for 148.

We should have won that one. But there is a lot of good to take out of it. We bowled a team out and most of us got a bowl and we all got a bat.

HK Willow Wielders vs LCC Women, 1st October 2008
Match Report HK Willow Wielders vs LCC Women
1st October 2008

Lamma thrashed HKCC Willow Wielders by 118 runs!

Lamma batted first and made the daunting total of 256 for 3. Connie got to open with Neisha this match, after sitting through the entire innings with her pads on last time (when Emma and Neisha each got unbeaten centuries). It was another excellent partnership: Neisha 144, Connie 81. We lost count of the number of sixes Neisha thwacked, but after comparing notes we reckon at least seven!

HKCC have a talented line up of bowlers but with our openers on such devastating form they just couldn’t make an early breakthrough. In the closing overs Betty did get two consolation wickets.

Lamma’s tight bowling and fielding pinned HKCC down right from the start and they never got close to the run rate needed. Godiva played with a stinking cold and a sore throat that only allowed whispered appeals... and still took 3 wickets! She also turned a good shot that looked like it was racing away for a four into an amazing run out with a great stop and an inch perfect throw from way out near the boundary. What’ll she be like when she’s fully fit? Connie deserved a wicket or two but still came away with two maidens and allowed only a mean 24 runs off her 10 overs. Janet bowled her first few overs of the season and nabbed a wicket too. For HKCC Natasha did well to reach her unbeaten 67, but their total of 138 for 6 fell well short.

Special thanks to Simone who hasn’t played for two years, only turned up to support us and ended up fielding. Don’t know why she hasn’t played, though — the ball came to her like it was on elastic.

So well done us — Great team work all round.

And Connie’s off to Australia til January — so middle order batsmen, you might just get a look in! From all your Lamma team mates: Cheers, Connie — See you next year!

LCC Archive Photos Unearthed!

Lamma CC At The Sixes In 1995
Thanks to Rajan who’s unearthed yet another classic photo for the archives. This time a brilliant front page photo from the Eastern Express (remember how they always used to have great photos?), dated Monday, 2nd October, 1995. Rajan himself is in the photo, far right, together with a bunch of ex-Lamma CC members. See how many you can spot. See the photo with original caption and credit.

Lamma CC First Overseas Tour
In a discovery that ranks almost up there with that of Tutankhamun’s tomb, two new photos have been unearthed by Alastair Robins’ Dad showing early LCC man on the club’s first ever overseas tour in 1993 to the Manila Nomads Sports Club in the Philippines. See the photos.
