Middlesex v Sussex, Pro40, Lord's

Goodwin eases Sussex past Middlesex

Cricinfo staff

September 10, 2006

A brilliant 92 from Murray Goodwin anchored Sussex's successful chase of 186 in their Pro40 match against Middlesex at Lord's. Sussex won the toss and chose to bowl, a decision which was immediately justified when Paul Weekes was trapped lbw by Jason Lewry for a second-ball duck. Thereafter, Middlesex fell away in familiar fashion in spite of a fine 87 from Ed Smith, fresh from his Championship hundred yesterday, but Yasir Arafat (4 for 29) and James Kirtley (3 for 27) mopped up the rest. Sussex stumbled to 94 for 4 in reply and, in spite of Goodwin falling with just three needed, his 112-ball innings provided the foundation for an easy four-wicket win.
