David Burton played for four county 2nd XIs in 2005 and 2006 but it was for a fifth county, Gloucestershire, that he made his first-class debut at the end of 2006. He went wicketless but scored 52 batting at No. 10. After a full season at Gloucestershire in 2007 he had trials for Kent at the start of 2008 before moving on to Middlesex, his seventh county. He also played for Oxfordshire.
