Glamorgan swoop for Wood

Glamorgan have signed Matthew Wood, the former Yorkshire batsman who was released by the club in July.

Wood, 30, failed to play in a single Championship game for Yorkshire this season. But Matthew Maynard, Glamorgan's new manager, is delighted to have secured his services for 2008.

"Matthew is a proven performer at the top of the order," he told the club's website. "We are very pleased to have signed a player with both that calibre and experience and I'm sure he will have a positive influence on our squad."

"It's a new challenge for me," Wood said. "I still feel there's plenty more to come from me. "I want to improve as a player as well and at 30, I think I've got a fair bit to go."
