ICC ODI Championship

Sri Lanka must win all five to improve ODI rating

ICC Media Release

April 19, 2004

Sri Lanka must win all five of its One-Day International matches in Zimbabwe to improve its rating in the ICC ODI Championship table.

Sri Lanka goes into the first match in Bulawayo tomorrow in third place in the official ODI table with a rating of 109. In a congested table it lies marginally ahead of New Zealand, also on 109, and England, whose rating improved to 108 after victory in its first match in the West Indies on Tuesday.

If Sri Lanka wins all of its matches its rating will improve to 110 while a 4-1 series win will cause its rating to drop below New Zealand's.

Zimbabwe is currently ninth in the official ODI table, a long way adrift of the top eight with a rating of 64. It only needs to win one match in the home series to improve its rating.

The ICC ODI Championship table correct on 18 April 2004

Team Rating
1 Australia 135
2 South Africa 113
3 Sri Lanka 109
4 New Zealand 109
5 England 108
6 India 107
7 Pakistan 106
8 West Indies 99
9 Zimbabwe 64
10 Kenya 28
11 Bangladesh 3

Developed by David Kendix

Note: If ratings are equal, the ratings calculation is refined to three decimal places to determine the higher ranked team.

Mike Procter from the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Referees will take charge of the series with Daryl Harper from the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires and Ian Howell from the Emirates International Panel scheduled to stand in alternate matches alongside locally-appointed officials.

The ICC ODI Championship table is updated on the ICC website after every ODI match.

To predict the impact future results will have on the ratings visit the official ICC website www.icc.cricket.org then click on `ICC ODI Championship' and `analyse this table for future results'.
