SuperSport Series, Round One, 3rd day

Willoughby runs through the Warriors

Keith Lane

October 22, 2005

After securing a first innings lead of 52 the Warriors suffered a complete collapse in their second innings as they could only muster 100 runs. Charl Willoughby ran riot taking 5 for 36, with Burton de Wett top-scoring with 29. It took the Cobras only 32 overs to knock off the 153 runs needed to complete victory inside three days, with Andrew Puttick undefeated on 69.

At Durban, the game between the Dolphins and the Lions seems to be heading for a dull draw after the Dolphins came within 56 runs of the 448 scored by the Lions. This despite Garnett Kruger ending the innings with career best figures of 8 for 112. For the Dolphins, Jon Kent contributed 94, Russell Symcox 87 and Hashim Alma 60. At the close, the Lions had scored 116 for 1 with the match heading into the final day.

At Benoni, the Titans did not enforce the follow-on after bowling the Eagles out for 192 and establishing a lead of 246 for the first innings. Dale Steyn was the main wicket taker with 4 for 56, and was assisted with three wickets apiece from Ethy Mbhalati and Alfonso Thomas. Deciding to bat for a second time, the Titans declared at 169 for 4 with Martin van Jaarsveld scoring 70 before being run out. The Eagles' target of 416 looked even further away as they lost Jonathan Beukus and enter the last day on 48 for 1.
