Porterfield signs for Gloucestershire

William Porterfield, the Ireland batsman, has signed a two-year deal with Gloucestershire.

Porterfield, 23, represented Ireland in the World Cup where he top-scored with 85 in their 74-run win over Bangladesh. Porterfield also spent a three-season spell as an MCC Young Cricketer between 2004 and 2006.

"I'm pleased for Will," Clive Radley, the MCC coach told the BBC, "who has got his just rewards for impressing with us, Leeds/Bradford UCCE and Ireland."
