Roger Telemachus has been unlucky to have his career coincide with a period during which South Africa have been liberally blessed with fast bowling talent. This, together with a couple of badly-timed injuries, held his career back. He was chosen to tour Australia in 1997-98, but had to withdraw from the squad after failing a fitness test. In 1998 he made it to England, only to have to return home with an injury early in the tour. He was given a good un in the side in 2000 and 2001 but failed to cement his place with a string of ordinary performances and an economy rate which was too high. He is a genuine No. 11 batsman, but in February 2007, he was named in the South African squad for the World Cup in the Caribbean. (February 2007)
