Laid out in 1953, the ground was owned by
J.Samuel White & Co.Ltd., Ship Builders of Cowes and the
construction of the ground was funded by subscriptions from employees of
the company. The ground was used annually by Hampshire from 1956 to
1962, but the company then fell on hard times and the shipyard closed.
Permission was sought to build on the ground, but this was refused and
for some years the ground fell into disuse. It is now owned by the Isle
of Wight County Council and used by Plessey Radar and I.o.W. Community
Club C.C. Hampshire returned to the ground in 1987 for a match in aid of
Malcolm Marshall's Benefit and similar one-day games have been arranged
since.
