Netherlands slump to 22 all out

West Indies 24 for 1 beat Netherlands 22 (Selman 4-12, Alexander 3-6) by nine wickets
Scorecard

Women's cricket is always fighting for publicity but Netherlands' latest effort may seem more like an own goal, as they slumped to 22 all out against West Indies, meaning the unenviable record of lowest women's ODI total ever. The topscorer Helmien Rambaldo made 5, extras 6, while there were 11 embarrassed faces in a game which will draw comparisons with Bermuda's performance against South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers.

Their total was compiled over a painstaking 23.4 overs, while 18-year-old Shakera Selman returned 4 for 12 from her ten overs. Deandra Dottin, 17, took a wicket while the rest of the attack was made of two 21-year-olds - Kirbyina Alexander, who took 3 for 6 from her ten, and Lee-Ann Kirby, whose brace finished things off.

If West Indies had been hoping for some extra batting practice ahead of facing England this week, in inserting Netherlands they hardly got their way. They reached their total at a run a ball, needing just four overs for the paltry 24. They lost Dottin on the way, yorked for 11 by Jolet Hartenhof attempting a big swing to finish the match, but not before she brought up the game's first four, off the same bowler.

For West Indies it was a great way to end the Netherlands leg of their European tour - they are now unbeaten in seven matches but now have a considerably stiffer test, against England, in two one-dayers on Friday and Saturday at Loughborough. Having brushed aside their opposition to date, England will not prove so easy.
