Wellington v Central Districts Day 2

Wellington did well ending day two of their State Championship match against Central Districts (CD) with a second-innings lead of 75 at the loss of one wicket after their bowlers bowled out CD for 298.

CD resumed their innings in the morning by losing Geoff Barnett, the opener, in the first over without an addition to the overnight score. Iain O'Brien, CD's right-arm medium bowler, who trapped Barnett in front of the wicket, got four wickets for 65. He broke the partnership between Bevan Griggs, the wicketkeeper, and Greg Hay, when he had Griggs caught by Parlane at 58 when the pair had added 102 runs for the fifth wicket. Hay ended the innings unbeaten at 98 as he ran out of partners - none of whom managed a score above 20. Mark Gillespie's right-arm fast-medium bowling accounted for the tail-enders and he finished with figures of 3 for 83.

Michael Parlane and Jeetan Patel will look to push the lead on day three with Stephen Fleming and James Franklin, New Zealand's bowling allrounder, yet to come in.

Auckland v Otago Day 1

Tim McIntosh's 173 not out nicely set up Auckland's first innings against Otago taking the team score to 312 for the loss of three wickets. Seven Otago bowlers bowled the 100 overs of the day - Kyle Hogg being the most successful with 2 for 49 from 21 overs of right-arm fast medium bowling. McIntosh and Rob Nicol (86 not out) added 208 runs for the fourth wicket.

Cantebury v Norhern Districts Day 1

Cantebury bowled out Northern District (ND) for 272 and then batted the nine remaining overs of the day losing one wicket for 26 runs. Chris Harris's sole wicket of the day BJ Watling, the ND opener, top-scored with 93 and added useful partnerships with Hamish Marshall (56 runs) and James Marshall (89 runs). Daniel Vettori chipped in with 40. Leighton Burtt was Cantebury's best bowler conceding only 37 runs in 15 overs for his three wickets. Shane Bond, who is likely to be fit for the first Test against Sri Lanka at Christchurch, got two wickets from 19 overs. Cantebury's batsmen, yet to come, include Test players Chris Harris, Peter Fulton and Nathan Astle.
