Western Australia announce unchanged selection panel

Wisden Cricinfo staff

April 30, 2004

The Western Australian Cricket Association has named an unchanged four-man selection panel for the 2004-05 season. Wayne Hill returns as chairman of selectors, while the other three members are Tom Hogan, the left-arm spinner who played seven Tests for Australia in the mid-80s, Peter Capes, the former Western Australian fast bowler, and Lee Bott. Hill has been a Western Australian selector for ten years, while Capes will enter his fourth year, Bott his third, and Hogan his second.

Speaking to the media after the announcement, Rob Langer, the general manager of cricket operations in Western Australia, said: "The state cricket committee has full confidence in the performance of the panel as a whole and as individuals in their own right. The WACA values their contribution through their cricket awareness and the time they put into their roles.

"This involves viewing cricket, attending selection meetings and travelling with the Retravision Warriors and the State Second XI. The selectors also contribute to the process of player rankings for the contractual process."

Western Australia finished fourth in the 2003-04 Pura Cup, but had more success in the ING Cup, winning the one-day tournament.
