Stanford 20/20

Ganga bids to get back on track

Daren Ganga, the West Indies opener, is hoping to be among the chief run-makers at the 2008 Stanford 20/20 tournament in Antigua, after an "ordinary" Test tour of South Africa.

Ganga, who also captains Trinidad and Tobago, is not satisfied with his performance in the recent Test series, and is looking to get among the runs in the shortest version of the game.

Following T&T's first practice match against a Select XI, at the Queen's Park Oval yesterday, Ganga expressed satisfaction. "Our focus is one game at a time. So far the [team's] form looks great. We're not taking anybody for granted. We're going to take it one game at a time. We have four finals to play in this tournament."

Ganga admitted he was not pleased with his performance in South Africa - 117 runs in six innings at an average of 19.50 - but commended West Indies for the fight shown in the first two Tests.

"I think I had an ordinary tour," Ganga said. "Considering our performances in 1998 and 2003 this was our best performance. Winning that first Test match and competing in that second Test match, definitely we have a lot of positives to take with us."

Ganga hoped to use the Stanford 20/20 tournament to get himself back on track. "I haven't performed well in the last two tours, but the challenge is there for me to try and get back my full scoring form [as] in 2006. And that is what I'm looking forward to doing in the Stanford 20/20."
