Back to the usual cover for the 101st edition, but it was still packed with features. Norman Preston said in his Notes that Wisden made an "indelible contribution" to the summer, and that the centenary edition had been treated as a "national event". The firm of John Wisden and Co. marked the occasion by launching the Wisden Trophy, to be fought out between England and West Indies - Frank Worrell was the first to hold it aloft. Neville Cardus had a busy year, preparing a full list of captains and leading players of England and Australia in the past, as well as a comprehensive account of the career of Jack Hobbs, who died aged 81. Another big name to pass away was Plum Warner, and he too received a detailed obituary.
